First show in ~20 years!

I’m honored to have been accepted into the juried show “Teeny Tiny Trifecta 9” at the Second Street Gallery in Charlottesville, Virginia! I never thought I’d be entering my first show 20+ years after the last one, but a poet once taught me art is meant to be shared.

I think one of the reasons is that it’s actually good for you to look at art! There have been scientific studies showing that viewing art in person relieves stress and has other beneficial affects on the body (and I bet on community as well). And there are many studies proving the benefits of creating art as well.

Show details

In TTT9, there are many artists, each one submitting three pieces (the tri in trifecta), each one 8” by 8”. I created a series of five paintings (because I love to work in series) and picked the three that felt like a trifecta. Then I finished them and mounted them to birch panel for easy hanging.

Meaning behind the paintings

At the time I created this series, it was Guru Purnima. In this Vedic tradition, you express gratitude to all your teachers (guru = remover of darkness) by offering prayers, flowers, and gifts. These paintings are honoring the teachers of my own experience, mostly of things I’ve willfully avoided - like being an artist. And honor my new teachers who have prompted me to do things… like apply for an art show!
